For example, if I wanted to explain it to a 6th grader, how might I do this in an easy way to understand? Can someone give me an analogy for pork barrel legislation?Pork barrel legislation is taking something out of the pork barrel (the barrel you put the pork into to preserve it) for your people. IOW, if I present a bill to pay for a new bridge in my area, even if it doesn't go anywhere (say it's a "bridge to nowhere), my constituents will see me as a congress person who can get money to their area. I got them some of the pork. (Some pork barrel money is used for projects that are actually needed and useful.)Can someone give me an analogy for pork barrel legislation?Pork is something added to a bill.
If you want to pass a bill someone will say Ok ill vote for it but you have to do something for me.
Lets say a bill says all 6th graders should wear blue shoes.
To get the bill passed they will add something that says OK but the laces have to be green to get the vote
Blue shoes wins but there is a compromize to get the votes needed to pass the bill into law.
