or local decisions that will affect funding for, rules regarding, or the quality of your kids' schools? do you make your opinions on those issues known to your congresspeople or town representatives?
if not, why not?
as a case in point, there's legislation at stake right now on the federal level with different versions in the House and Senate -- the House version of which would provide vastly more money for schools. do you care? do you care enough to write to someone who will impact the final decision?Parents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation?Sadly, not really. I'm a little bit apathetic and I know it. My husband is an elementary school administrator, so he does write our representatives from time to time. Maybe if our daughter was school aged I would pay more attention, but since we are planning on private school I doubt it.Parents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation?
yes we have to watch cause some idiot is always wanting to cut funds for school for children with special needsParents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation? If I were unhappy w/the quality of my children's school, you bet I would. Unfortunately, my mom teaches in a poor school district and yet the superintendent got a new million dollar office a couple of years ago (guess where her property taxes went)? I do think people squawk alot w/out taken responsibility for informing themselves of their rights but a lot of federal issues can go above a lay persons head making it difficult to understand.
I'm not a big letter writer or phone caller... But, I do shoot off an email to my representatives now %26amp; again.
I am more actively aware of local politics %26amp; referendums. We have a biggie going on in our school district right now, regarding moving all of the 6th graders from the elementary schools to the middle school, which will involve remodeling the middle school to accomodate them.Parents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation?I do to an extent. Some of that stuff is so convoluted in its wording it wears me down to just not pay attention. I do get an email through msn and I know how and what my elected officials vote on. I keep on eye on that. I would like to say I had more of voice, but i don't. i instead just share my opinion w/people around me rather than those that can do something about. although to be honest, i don't really believe politicians can and will do anything just because i called or wrote them. i'm not paying their way therefore they dont answer to me. i'm actually pretty bitter about the whole political set up as it stands now.
maybe obama and some of his new rules will change how politics are done (love the anti lobbying measures in regards to gifts and such).
i can hope at least.Parents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation?
I take interest in FBI since my best friend works there but I don't care about laws.
The most recent local decision I've taken part of was to raise the millage in our school district. It successfully passed and now the elementary school is getting much needed additions-- (cafetorium, classrooms, playground equipment, etc.) Im from a very small town and Im glad our small community came together and did this to benefit the kids.Parents, do you take an interest in federal or state legislation?
I try to keep up but honestly, I have no idea what's going on in government regarding school budgets and funding. I do care but find it really difficult to follow especially when they tack them onto bills as riders. I would love to have an address to write to if it could make an impact. I'm just afraid all the complaint mail never gets read.
Thanks for the link!
