Senate approval, like it did with Obamacare?
Also, do the Republicans now have a high enough count to override a (Democrat majority) Senate vote AND/OR a Presidential veto? With a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without? The Republicans don't have a 2/3 majority in the House, but veto overrides aren't entirely out of the question (you need a 2/3 vote) because so many of the Democrats that WERE elected last night are actually far more moderate than the last bunch. So they may or may not vote with the GOP on some things. With a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without?
No. And that democrat tactic on Obama care could have only gone that way because the Senate had already voted on it and passed it. Congress had to pass the Senate version.
But we do have enough in congress to overcome any Democratic opposition in Congress so legislation can be passed and sent on to the Senate for THEM and/or the President to say no. Now, Obama and Harry are going to be the party of no. Let's see how that works out for them. With a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without? No, on all accounts.
The House did not force the Health Care Bill to the Presidents desk without the Senate.
The House passed the Senate's revised version of the Health Care Bill.
Needless to say, the House isn't going to be forcing any legislative action anytime soon.
And the Supreme Court doesn't work that way; they can't just pick out a random bill and override it.
The House belongs to the Republicans. The Senate is a more closely matched group, so for Republicans to jam things through there, some Democrats are going to have to vote with them. That has been happening here and there already; it's the only way Republicans have been able to block some of the crap the Obama camp has been sending down. With a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without? Not without going through Dirty Harry but it should be easier this time as dirty harry knows he only got re-elected because Nevada has the largest collection of morons on the planet and that him being re-elected will piss off the rest of the country who just might boycott Nevada creating their unemployment to go even higher.. So look for a different dirty harry and a different closet muslim this time aroundWith a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without?
The House cannot override the Senate - both must agree to a given bill before it is sent to the President. If the President vetoes, both the House and Senate must re-pass the bill with 2/3 majority to override the veto.
Uh no. Btw, the Senate voted on health care (I was even there). The two houses simply had different legislation that was reconciled. With a majority in the House, can Republicans now force legislation to the President's desk without?
Nope.'
TWO YEARS OF GRIDLOCK.
Either the Senate will block it, or Obama will veto it.
Republican house+Democrat Senate+Democrat President= Two years of partisan bickering and deadlock politics.
