Public option supporters claim to want competition for the big insurance companies. Therefore they're against private-only options and single payer.
Private-only supporters don't want any type of government plan.
Single payer supporters don't want any private insurance.
There seems to be no middle ground between these positions. Is this the reason the Democrats are having such a hard time agreeing on health care legislation? The way I see it the real problem with health care is the cost. Even when you look at the uninsured, pre-existing conditions, etc. It's all done due to high costs.
The country needs reform and reducing litigation would be the best place to start. Actual legal awards and malpractice insurance amount to about 10% of the medical bills we all pay. Then we pay another 10-15% in additional tests and procedures so the doctors don't get used. Fixing this would be a start. Yes, more needs to be done...Is this the reason the Democrats are having such a hard time agreeing on health care legislation?Yes, the positions of major voting blocs in Congress are pretty far apart. It will be difficult, if not impossible, to please everyone.
