Will it become affordable to purchase a plug-in hybrid car through sales and income tax rebates and credits? Wouldn't this be the moral way to encourage Americans to conserve energy and get greener? Wouldn't this be in our National Security interest? Wouldn't this be a better society? Will Legislatures pass legislation this year that will encourage us to buy hybrid cars? There's already some income tax credit for those who purchase hybrid cars. Just go to irs.gov, and search for keyword "hybrid", and you'll see how much credit you'll get for each type of hybrid/fuel-efficient cars:

I hope not! Have you seen the replacement costs of one of those batteries or how long they take to decompose? Will Legislatures pass legislation this year that will encourage us to buy hybrid cars? The only idea the democrats can come up with is to punish oil companies with more taxes or to eliminate tax breaks. Companies will only pass these costs onto the consumer. Who loses? Poor and middle class Americans.
Politicians are going to convert car pool lanes in Southern California into toll lanes. Another consumer based punishment when trying to get to work or home. Why? So they can get more federal tax dollars they can use on something other than transportation.
A couple of years ago you could get a sticker that allowed you to drive in the car pool lane, but only a few got them. Many people went out and purchased hybrids solely for this purpose. They discontinued the program so the incentive is gone. They are selling the used cars with those stickers for over $3000 more just because they have the sticker.
The best things to do would be to eliminate our need for foreign oil. Start drilling here, find other sources of energy, alternative fuels, and yes vehicles that use less. Will Legislatures pass legislation this year that will encourage us to buy hybrid cars?
If they pass legislation, it will probably take affect in about 10 years because the auto companies don't want to spend to retool.
Also we don't have enough "gas" stations to service hybrid cars...especially electric, ethanol, corn based energy.
I watched a report that in Southern California they gave people electric cars near an area where they installed regenerating pumps for plug in cars.
I think the government would have to invest in the infrastructure to do it.
Just think, in Europe they're up to 40 miles a gallon, when Bush %26amp; Congress passed minimum of 35 gpm for 2015. (I think that's the right year...maybe later).
Yes, it would do all the things you say but the gov't %26amp; the auto companies have to want to do it.
Good luck to us!Will Legislatures pass legislation this year that will encourage us to buy hybrid cars? Why do people need government approval to buy what they want, need or like in this country? Will Legislatures pass legislation this year that will encourage us to buy hybrid cars?
I don't care how many tax credits and assorted BS they pass, people aren't going to buy them until they get a helluva lot cheaper! Cars cost enough as it is. Even the cheapest ones cost more than my first house did! Hybrids cost about 1/3 more than conventional cars. If our political parasites really wanted to encourage hybrids, they'd pass a law mandating that they can't cost any more than a regular car does. Then, normal people could afford them!
It would only work if SUVs are stopped being purchased by a foolish consumer.
