What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?

Republican. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican himself. Libs consistently deny this fact. What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?Republican. What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?
Republican. What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation? If you are trying to imply democrat it shows how absolutely ignorant you are. Democrats, Obama's party, supported slavery. It was Republicans who ended slavery.

For god sakes get a brain before you vote again.
Republican (you know, when they used to be conservative). What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?Lincoln wouldn't recognize today's Republican party.

MLK was criticized for advocating "democratic socialism", so I doubt he was in the republican party, dum dum. What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?
And which party did Jesse Helms belong to?
Lincoln is probably rolling in his grave over the fact that the republican party is nothing more than a hate group now. What political party is responsible for the first Civil Right Legislation?
here's the weird thing.

i spent five years in the deep south and NEVER ever saw any momument or memorial to lincoln but numerous ones to nathan bedford forest.

it's so weird that today's republicans will try to take credit for the work of JFK and LBJ.

but rewriting history is often an odd and awkward process.
LBJ was the foremost to tackle these issues, a Dem. The South has always be dominated by rednecks and racist who the majority are neocon voters for Palin and losers such as. Lincoln was great as well and was a Republican who I doubt would ever recognize the GOP obstructionist party today.
There were no political parties when the Magna Carta was written in 1215.

Greg: The King family were Republicans, but switched in 1960 when Martin was arrested on a trumped-up charge in Georgia. They called Nixon and he refused to help. So they called Kennedy, and he called some allies, and Dr. King was sprung without a scratch or a bruise. The Kings have been Democrats ever since, because the Democrats proved that they were ready to become the civil rights party, and the Republicans proved they were ready to give up that title.
republican, back in the days when you could actually tell a difference between the 2 corrupt partys.

democrats are mostly elitist good 'ol boy racist or ignorant socialist. pansy's. the republicans arent much better,

i only hope the independents gain some power soon before this country is run into the ground even more.
The Republicans were formed partly because of the Democrats close ties with the KKK.

The Dems still have a few KKK members serving at the National level.
That is a pointless question because the political parties of the 19th century were very different from those today. The Republican party was a liberal party founded by liberals. Do a little research on Horace Greeley, one of the founders of the party, and ask yourself if this is the kind of man the Republicans of today would embrace. As for the claim that "libs always deny" this, that is ridiculous. Any liberal you ask will confirm it, and then explain why it is irrelevant. Who do you think those southern Democrats of old vote for now? Ever heard of the southern strategy, used by the GOP to capitalize on southern anger with the civil rights movement and the Democrats' support for it? Do some research before trotting out the same old discredited points.
